Good old Mother Nature, being more interested in ‘function’ than in ‘form’, isn’t particularly concerned about the way our breasts look – to ourselves or anyone else.
Today’s body conscious women, however, consider breasts to be important not only in terms of feeding babies and staying healthy over a lifetime, but for their contribution to positive self image and personal confidence. If we are unhappy about their shape, their size, their uplift, their droopiness, or the fact that they are ill-matched, we may want to know how to best enhance what are our most visible female assets.
If you are reading this, then you have already discovered Global Health Travel in your search for the perfect partner to help you address your needs around breast enhancement surgery overseas.
Your issues are not just about cost, although the high price of plastic surgery in countries like Australia, may already have led you to consider breast augmentation in another country at prices around a third to half of those at home, along with a restful recovery in premium holiday accommodation in a great location. You also want to know more about, well, everything……
Unlike many travel-focussed companies that offer surgical services, Global Health Travel puts your “health” before your “travel”, because your trip is not primarily about having a holiday in Thailand, although some holiday pleasures are a bonus. It’s about considering your physical and emotional requirements, putting you into the hands of a highly competent team, who will look after you at every stage from planning to surgery, during recovery, while enjoying your rest break and well beyond your return home.
Before your surgery you will have plenty of opportunity to do your research and put your mind at rest. If you are having implants, research the brands and types that may be used and consider what you would prefer in terms of look, feel and comfort, even if you alter your choice after consultation with your doctor.
What you may not know about breast implants
The breast implants used at Bumrungrad Hospital are safely manufactured either by Mentor or Natrelle and are the only brands approved by the Federal Drug Administration in the USA. Mentor breast implants come with a lifetime replacement warranty. The two most commonly used types include those filled with a gel and those filled with saline solution.
Silicone gel filled – These come in either a round or a teardrop shape (the latter is sometimes recommended for a mature breast), with either smooth or textured shells.
A smooth shell is most commonly used, but a textured shell, which adheres more closely to flesh, reduces the possibility of painful capsular contraction and is often preferred in circumstances where it’s desirable to prevent the implant from shifting and causing irritation or inflammation.
Gel breast implants have a natural feel, similar to breast tissue, and they come in different ‘profiles’. The profile describes how much they project outward from the chest. Women have differing profile preferences, with some preferring less (low profile) projection, some preferring a bit more (moderate) and some wanting quite a bit (high).
As these gel filled implants are manufactured to a predetermined size and shape before implantation, they cannot be altered in size later on, but there is no risk of over-filling and little chance of rupture in normal circumstances.
The recently released results of medical testing in the UK over several years have shown that the silicone gel used in these implants is safe for use in the human body and not a cause of diseases such as cancer.
Saline filled – These are implanted first and then filled to the desired level with a sterile saline (salty) solution, similar to the fluid found in the human body. Adjustments can be made over time to the level of saline in the implant to provide a bigger or smaller breast.
The shell is thinner than the shell of the gel filled breast implants and there is an increased possibility of rupture, especially if the implant is over-filled. The feel of breasts with saline filled implants is firmer than the feel of breasts with gel filled implants.
Hydrogel implants – Although silicone gel filled implants have been proven safe to date and not the cause of disease, some women may prefer the option of Hydrogel implants. These are less commonly used, but their merits can also be discussed with your doctor before surgery.
