Another part of detox is often associated with flushing the system using various types of laxative drinks, enemas or other methods of cleaning out anything within the digestive tract.

Most detox diets rely very heavily, if not completely on the intake of vegetables, some fruits and raw nuts and seeds. Most often fats, dairy, sugar and other types of foods are to be avoided. The idea is that besides just cleaning out your digestive system, this diet will cause you to burn fat and release the toxins that are stored in fat through various body fluids.

Some detox diets are known as juice diets or juice fasting. In this type of diet you eat no solid foods for a period of time and only drink the select type of liquid. These are usually only water or natural fruit or vegetable juices.

Detox diets are effective at triggering weight loss. The questions of whether or not they really help to rid the body of toxins effectively and even whether or not it is necessary to try have yet to be fully answered. However, most doctors agree that this type of diet is safe as long as there is no nutrient deficiency, especially long term.

It can''t hurt to take a break from some of the harmful foods we eat and switch over to more natural and less processed options, filling the body with vitamins and nutrients straight from the earth. And it definitely can''t hurt if, in the process, we also lose some weight along with those toxins!
